I’m Bernard - Engineering team leader at Bolton Bakery. I joined Warburton’s 26 years ago after leaving British Coal where I worked as a Colliery Electrician from school at 16. Here we work a 4 shift system with 4 small teams of Engineers and I’m responsible for one of these teams.

We undertake Planned Maintenance of the Bakery, Bread plant, Crumpet plant, Sheet & Cut plant research and development bakery. We use different techniques such as Vibration analysis, Acoustic analysis and Thermographic analysis. All very fancy - but we still do plenty greasing and oiling!

There’s no ‘typical’ day. There’s always new developments and new equipment being installed. This shows the commitment the company has to invest in the bakery. This gives us training and development opportunities, which all Engineers relish. We always look for new skills training, it’s what makes for a good Engineer!
